bnews Media
bnews Media is a Melbourne-based publishing firm which specialises in gay media.
Its flagship title is bnews, Melbourne’s highest-circulation gay and lesbian entertainment and lifestyle publication, which boasts a loyal and affluent readership of 100,000.
bnews is published fortnightly, and is widely distributed throughout the CBD and suburbs in a number of businesses and community organisations, including gay and straight pubs, clubs, cafes, travel agents, hairdressers, galleries, cinemas, video stores and public libraries.
We are this city’s only independently-audited publication, with a CAB-approved figure of 20,800 each fortnight. bnews is a recognised brand, having operated for more than 12 years, originally as the queer newspaper Brother Sister.
bnews is targeted at Melbourne’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community and chock-full of breaking news from Australia and overseas, opinion, as well as entertainment and lifestyle features.
Each fortnight bnews offers readers the latest information about the queer entertainment scene across the northside and southside precincts, with event listings, social photos, as well as celebrity interviews and reviews of music, theatre and film.
There’s also fashion spreads, gay-friendly travel features, advice on sex, love and relationship, dining and car reviews, home and property articles as well as in-depth features on social issues specific to the queer community.
Our editorial team includes some of the best news, entertainment and lifestyle writers as well as star columnist and cabaret performer Kaye Sera.
According to our surveys, bnews readers are predominantly between the ages of 18 and 40 and each year spend:
- $93.2 million on ‘arts’ entertainment
- $195.7 million on holidays
- $229.8 million on fashion and vanity products
- $128.8 million on CDs, DVDs and books
- $25.7 million on adult products and services

Nearly half of bnews readers plan home improvements during this year; one in three own cats, and one in three own dogs; and 63 per cent drink wine at least once a week.
Advertisers in bnews will find a generous, affluent yet discerning market.
Gay Travel Guide
Other titles include The Gay Travel Guide, a national A5-sized full colour magazine published annually.
The Gay Travel Guide was established 12 years ago, ostensibly as a Victorian-based Guide to gay and gay-friendly accommodation including B&Bs, hotels, cottages, resorts as well as general travel information, sights, attractions and a year-long events calendar.
Through advertising and editorial, doors have opened around the country for businesses interested in this market. We have helped grow gay market recognition and have brought marketing opportunities to leading gay-welcoming destinations, suppliers and travel agents.
In 2007 The Gay Travel Guide was expanded to become a national product, with sections covering all corners of Australia, with accommodation listings, gay venues, health and services information, and a comprehensive events calendar.
It’s the ultimate gay travel planner.
