Zimbabwe is in a mess. Inflation rates are 100,000% and rising, there are food shortages and rampant human rights abuses. In the face of a HIV/AIDS pandemic the health system is shattered leaving many Zimbabwean’s in utter despair.
The country is officially recognised as a failed state and the blame rests squarely in the lap of homophobic leader, Robert G Mugabe.
Discrit Zimbabwe by Simon Tengende opens at La Mama Theatre next month. The play explores the “farm invasions” that were part of Robert Mugabe’s controversial land distribution policies.
The production is by the Skinny Twin Theatre Troupe, with direction from Chris Molyneux. The cast includes Samir Mallick, Jo-Anne Armstrong, Ashley Hanyani and Maruza Chikwanha.
