Miss Man has burst onto our small screens in the latest season of Australia’s Got Talent. The lady herself snuggles up on the casting couch with KAYE SERA for a chat

Congratulations on getting into the Semi Finals. What’s behind your decision to enter the competition?
I’ve been working in the industry all my life and I thought I’d put all my talent into this one act – rewriting songs, singing and dancing – that’s how Miss Man was born.

So what type of lady is Miss Man?
I didn’t just want to be any old queen. I wanted her to be more real; sort of a combination between Sonia Kruger and Jennifer Hawkins. She’s not bitchy, she’s not tarty but she is crafty and she’s very good on the sewing machine.

So how did you get into the show?
I went to the after party of last years episode and I was having a few drinks and a laugh with Red Simons and he was like why don’t you come on the show I was like why don’t I do it as a woman. Then I just emailed some stuff to the producers and was invited to do the audition.

Which was obviously successful because they took you into the show?
Yeah. I sort of got approved straight away. The timing was right for Miss Man’s creation.

So has Miss Man had any industry insider tips?
Not really. But I did do a show once with Red Simons and I was in Dannii’s music video clip for Love and Kisses. But I didn’t want to use any of those contacts to get into the show. It ‘s all about creating this character and letting her survive on her own talent.

Dannii was great during your on air audition, she really got the act.
They were all very complimentary to the character – it left me with a great high.

Are you inspired by the success that Courtney Act has had?
I didn’t really watch the show (Australian Idol) but I do know about her.

So what are your hopes and aspirations with Miss Man?
Well to be honest they took a lot of footage during the taping of the first show that they didn’t use. I would like them to be a bit more personal with Miss Man – really get her story out there.

Perhaps they’ll pursue that line further down the track.
I had a bit of a moment with the producers during the Semi Finals and my trick is if I get through to the Grand Final I will reveal the real Miss Man. That’s why people should vote for her. My message for the couch sitters at home is don’t judge us by what we look like – don’t judge a book by its cover.
