Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical has scooped the pool at the Green Room Awards this year.
Priscilla beat other musicals Miss Saigon, Spamalot and Keating in several categories including Best Production and Best Featured Ensemble Performance. The home grown musical based on the 1994 film picked up a total of six awards including Best Male Artist in a Leading Role for Tony Sheldon (Bernadette pictured) and Best Choreography for Ross Coleman.
Laurie Cadevida won best Female Artist for her role as Kim in Miss Saigon and Eddie Perfect won Best Male Artist for his hilarious work as John Hewson and Alexander Downer in Keating.
In the Dance category, David Chisholm got the nod for Music Composition in Brindabella (BalletLab). While Barrie Kosky was acknowledged for his direction in The Tell-Tale Heart at the Malthouse. The Green Room Lifetime Achievement was awarded to veteran singer Toni Lamond.
President of the Green Room Awards Association, Dr Mark Williams said the 25th Green Room Awards have been an outstanding opportunity to honour and recognise
excellence in a roller coaster industry.
“Anyone who saw Rusalka at the State Theatre, Spamalot at Her Majesty’s, Meow Meow at The Famous Speigeltent or Raimondo Cortese’s play Holiday at La Mama received a gift of the best in Melbourne theatre last year,” he said. “The good
news is that some of these productions and performers, notably Priscilla are still playing or due to return.”
