Easter’s ‘hunky’ Jesus

San Franciscans flocked to the city’s Dolores Park in the city for the traditional Easter Sunday Hunky Jesus competition, run by the charitable order of gay nuns, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

In celebration of their 29th anniversary, the Sisters created an outdoor speakeasy in the park. The entertainment included an Easter Bonnet Contest, judged by Sister Dana Van Iquity and Sister Roma but, as always, the climax of the afternoon was the selection of this year’s Hunky Jesus.

A selection of scantily clad men toting crosses vied for the honor in a parade compered by Sister Barbi Mitzvah and Sister Edith Myflesh.

This year’s winner of the thorny crown was ‘Michaelangelo Jesus’ (pictured). Previous entrants have included ‘old school Jesus, ‘surfer Jesus’ and ‘zombie Jesus’.

Local Catholics were predictably outraged, calling the event “blasphemous”.
The Sisters distributed $25,000 for local charities, and Sister Dinah Might “bestowed the honor of Saint to those that serve our community”.

Face-painting and story telling was provided for children by Sister Reyna Terror – “parental discretion advised”.
