I am here on holiday and read (The Saturday Age's) article "Fairytale Marriage", about women who discover their husbands are gay. I initially took umbrage at the stories told by these anonymous ladies, represented by a grim looking Marilyn Monroe-like character (please, the dress is outdated!).

I was procrastinating yesterday, and happened to watch the Australia vs. Spain men's water polo match. It was perhaps the sexiest thing I have ever seen on channel 7.... They were pulling down each other's bathers, and the cameras were showing it in all its pornographic glory. The Australian guys were beautiful, and the large, hairy Spanish men who kissed each other when the match finished were ever hotter! I just had to share this experience with anyone who might be interested.... I know there is no real story here. But seriously...gosh! Way better than French rugby. Esther, Northcote Via email

I was horrified on reading the Kennett ‘Paedophile Slur’ article in last week's bnews, but it confirmed everything I thought about the man anyway. I watched in dismay during the 90s as Herr Kennett plastered the city with unnecessary, gaudy, over-bloated immortality statements, whilst enacting various other acts of vandalism upon innocent members of the Victorian community. Unlike Fraser's "repentance" via charity work, I was summarily unconvinced by Kennett's defection to Beyond Blue.

We would like to ask other bnews readers to consider nominating Justice Michael Kirby for the Australian Of the Year awards. Every time he speaks, he increases understanding and acceptance of GLBTI issues - and when he speaks on other issues such as the environment, immigration, discrimination, equality and so on, he certainly fulfils the criteria of the award - "the awards recognise outstanding and inspirational Australians in all fields of endeavour who make our nation a better place to live". Take the time to visit the website www.australianoftheyear.orgau and make 2009 the year that WE thank Justice Michael Kirby for everything he does for us every day. Stephen and Adam Moreland West

I just sat down to hear Cardinal Pell give the opening address at the WYD papal mass. He welcomed and affirmed the pilgrims, young married couples, nuns and brothers, among others to Sydney. His welcome really illuminated how exclusive the Catholic church really is.

I just love the way we are able to put everyone in a box, label it and feel comfortable in the knowledge that categorisation will apply to all. Please, Scott Parker, you must be joking. As a "Muscleman" in your past you established yourself as being vacuous. You imply that you were at the top of the "sexual pecking order". Yeah, you're right! You were vacuous and perhaps still are.

I laughed out loud when I read your article on Mamma Mia (Mamma Mia madness, b209). Great job. I was expecting another old cliché...scenery great, songs great, blah blah... Was I delighted with what I read. So refreshing. Love the line about Burchmore and the cartwheel! Alan, Via email

What is with the lowercase 'a' on Aboriginal in your 'Beautiful bastard' piece?! Are we in the fifties or something? Don't you guys have an editorial policy at bnews that states something along the lines of... 'If ever we are referring to specific cultural groups of people - as in nouns that pertain to groups or nations of people - we should show them some respect and use title case'?

It's appalling that the federal government, whatever its intentions, is waiting till the end of the year to announce a policy presumably to counter VSU... in the meantime further damage is being done to Student Guilds and all their departments, their already skeletal staffing levels...

Interesting how in the past couple of issues, this paper has focused on two different groups of our community, ripping them apart solely based on their body type. Are we so easily defined by the shell of a body we walk around in? Would you say our sexuality defines us as easily as being a "muscle mary" or a "bear" would? It's no wonder men in our community have body image issues. Jason, Armadale Via bnews website

A Filipino man who discovered his boyfriend had an affair with a woman has been charged with attempted murder and is accused of castrating his lover in a jealous rage. It's alleged that the accused cut off his lover's penis while he slept. The man told police he flushed the dismembered organ down the toilet. His (now ex) lover is in a serious condition but expected to recover.
